Got censored, yo. Total crap

So about a week ago, I posed naked in a photo with a few of my friends and drinking buddies. We were asked to pose alongside the staff of one of my favorite local music venues, Burt’s Tiki Lounge. The theme of the photo shoot was ‘never a cover,’ as Burt’s Tiki Lounge never charges a cover for its shows. We all got a little loaded, showed some skin, and went on our merry way. Well, not two days afterward when the photo was ready, it was submitted as an ad to run in the Southwestern Gay and Lesbian Film Festival- and the festival censored it! We were all shocked. I mean, we assumed that particular festival would be more accepting of openess.  Granted, some of our bodies look better covered than they do naked, there was no reason to censor it. Except, of course, for the one older sound guy that should not have shown up for the shoot that morning. He can be censored.

We’re pushing to have t shirts made as a consolation prize for all those who participated, as it seemed we all got naked in a dirty dive bar for nothing. The t shirts could say “I got naked in Burt’s Tiki Lounge,” and on the back  “but the gays didn’t like my ass.”  We’ll see about that venture.

So, because Albuquerque is a curiously small town in a decently sized city, word about the ad got around pretty quick. It surfaced on Facebook, and of course we are all tagged in it, and so I had friends saying “I loved your picture” and “Would you like to play photoshoot with me sometime?” Gross.

I guess the Facebook fuss did some good, however, as after a week’s deliberation the Gay and Lesbian Film Festival decided to run the ad afterall.  So now my big naked butt will be shown on the big screen between gay and lesbian films. Rock!

But, from now on, my local will be known as Butt’s Tiki Lounge. I guess that is fair.

Never a cover
