Every year New Mexicans collectively get together and freak out proudly over the fact that it’s raining because ‘it never rains here.’ In reality it rains for a solid month, sometimes two, every year without fail (yet they still don’t construct gutters, sewers, and adequate drainage for the streets and flooding is a constant issue) and it shouldn’t be a shock to anyone.  Where I grew up you could wake up to rain, tornadoes, freak snow or hurricanes.  Hell it could be 100% humidity randomly one day. It wasn’t a surprise in February when it was raining with thunder and lightening.  Rain in Albuquerque in July… no shock there folks.  Move along.
